About Six Sided Sagas | TTRPG
What Is Six Sided Sagas?
Six Sided Sagas is a tabletop roleplaying system built around a simple idea: meaningful adventures begin with meaningful choices. Whether characters are exploring forgotten ruins, investigating strange disappearances, surviving supernatural threats, or traveling between distant worlds, the game provides a shared foundation for their stories. Its core rules emphasize accessible mechanics, teamwork, and consequences that keep play moving. Players describe what their characters attempt, gather six-sided dice, and discover how their decisions change the situation. The goal is to make room for imagination while giving danger, uncertainty, and character growth a clear structure at the table.
One Core Dice System
At the center of the system is an attribute-based dice pool. When a character attempts something uncertain, the player selects the appropriate attribute and rolls a number of six-sided dice equal to its rating, adjusted by applicable effects. The results are added together and compared with a Challenge Rating established by the Game Master. A total that meets or exceeds that rating succeeds. This familiar process supports many different activities, from breaking through a barricade to searching for evidence or negotiating with a suspicious stranger. Learning the basic roll gives players a foundation they can use throughout an adventure.
Five Attributes, Many Approaches
Five attributes define each character’s abilities: Strength, Reflex, Fortitude, Intelligence, and Charm. Strength covers physical force and demanding athletic efforts. Reflex represents speed, coordination, and agility. Fortitude measures endurance and resilience. Intelligence supports reasoning, awareness, investigation, and other mental challenges. Charm governs social influence, including persuasion, deception, and negotiation. Each attribute is measured in pips, with every pip representing one die. These ratings make a character’s strengths immediately visible while leaving players considerable freedom to explain how they approach a problem. Different characters can contribute to the same challenge through different abilities.
Creating Your Character
Character creation begins with one pip in every attribute, followed by five additional points to distribute. This creates an early choice between specialization and a more balanced spread of capabilities. Players also determine derived statistics, including Health and Armor Class, and Power when the setting uses relevant abilities. Those numbers provide the mechanical foundation, but the character’s identity comes from personal decisions. What do they want? What frightens them? Who matters to them? What would they refuse to do? Motivations, beliefs, and flaws give those attributes context and help turn a collection of statistics into someone worth following.
Every Roll Matters
Six Sided Sagas encourages rolling when the outcome matters. Routine actions can simply happen, allowing the group to spend its attention on moments of uncertainty and consequence. When dice are necessary, the margin of success or failure can help the Game Master interpret what follows. A narrow success might accomplish the immediate goal with a complication, while an exceptional result may offer an additional benefit. Failure can consume time, attract danger, or force another approach. This keeps setbacks active and interesting: a failed attempt changes the situation and gives the players something new to respond to.
Actions, Movement, and Teamwork
During combat and other time-sensitive encounters, the system gives characters a clear set of resources. A typical turn includes two Actions, one Swift Action, movement, and access to a Response when an appropriate trigger occurs. Movement can be divided around actions, giving players flexibility in how they position themselves and carry out their plans. Actions cover activities such as attacking, helping an ally, healing, using equipment, or interacting with an obstacle. The structure supports tactical choices while keeping the basic questions understandable: where should you go, what should you do, and how can you help the group?
Equipment and Preparation
Equipment adds another layer of decision-making. Attributes generally establish the foundation of a roll, while weapons and other equipment often determine the effects of a successful action. Armor and shields provide defensive benefits according to their individual rules. Preparation also matters because an item within easy reach is more useful during an emergency than one buried in a backpack. This creates practical choices about what characters carry and how they organize it. A useful tool, a ready supply, or a carefully prepared approach can change a situation before anyone needs to roll.
Unique Dice and Devil’s Bargains
Risk becomes especially personal through Unique Dice and Devil’s Bargains. A Unique Die replaces a normal die in an attribute pool and introduces a consequence when it rolls a one, even if the overall attempt succeeds. Its meaning depends on the ability, item, or event that granted it. Devil’s Bargains offer an immediate benefit in exchange for a meaningful cost, with acceptance always left to the player. Together, these mechanics create opportunities for tempting decisions. Characters may gain an advantage while accepting trouble that influences what happens next, making the pursuit of power part of the unfolding story.
Growth Through Adventure
Advancement follows milestones chosen by the Game Master. Characters grow through accomplishments and developments in the adventure, including solving problems, reaching important goals, and making consequential decisions. Each gained level provides an additional Attribute Point, allowing players to strengthen a specialty or develop another area of competence. Larger pools expand what a character can realistically achieve. Teamwork remains valuable throughout that growth, especially when a challenge exceeds one person’s capabilities. Assistance, preparation, and alternative approaches give the group ways to address obstacles that would otherwise remain beyond reach.
Your World, Your Story, Your Saga
The Game Master brings the world to life, establishes challenges, portrays its inhabitants, and helps the consequences of player decisions unfold. The rules encourage consistent rulings, varied encounters, and problems with more than one possible solution. That approach supports the system’s broader flexibility across genres: the same foundation can serve fantasy, mystery, horror, science fiction, or a combination shaped by the group. Setting-specific equipment and abilities provide further detail where needed. Six Sided Sagas ultimately invites players to build capable, imperfect characters, face uncertain situations together, and discover a story through play. Gather your companions, choose your approach, and roll the dice.
